My daughter is four years old. So tiny and precious in this big world. I was changed when she was born. Raising a girl in today’s world scares me. It also challenges me to teach her in a way that I hope will impress her heart and mind to Jesus and not the world’s way.
In this busy world that we face each day with challenges unimagined, I want to teach my daughter the word of God and his love so true that she can’t imagine life apart from his love.
I will make mistakes along the way. I have learned from my own choices as a young girl. I will always seek the Lord and pray for guidance and to help me be aware of the teachable moments in our days.
“Love the Lord with all your heart and your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:5-9 NIV
I want to impress on my daughter first and foremost to Love the Lord. Each day I pray with her about our family, obeying God, being kind to others, sharing, and being honest. Each day I am sure we will be faced with new challenges and life lessons but we will also be praising her and building her up. I want her to know that beauty is in God’s eyes not the world. Beauty is not the state of our bodies but the state of our hearts.
I want her to know that no prayer request is too small for our God. Prayer changes everything. I will pray with you. You can pray alone. You can journal your prayers. But always pray.
Relationships with your family and your friends are so valuable. God created us for relationships. Relationships to blossom your world and build everlasting foundations on. I want to impress on her that God created our relationships to be God intended and God focused.
I want to teach her about purity. To be ladylike in this “put everything out there” kind of world. Dress ladylike, talk ladylike, and act ladylike. You don’t have to do things just because your friends do it or you see it on every billboard in the city and tv.
Always have faith and hope in the LORD, in this world, in your family, and your dreams. Chase your dreams that God has given you. Do everything with Thanksgiving and pleasing to the Lord.
If when you make mistakes, seek God, ask for forgiveness, and always remember our God is a loving God. He is always here for you and so am I. You are not alone. Your daddy and I love you and we are always here for you. We will help you and never judge you. We have made mistakes in our lives too but God is GOOD and his GRACE is amazing.
There will always be mean girls. I experienced it myself in school and I see it in the stores today. Just know you can still love them and pray for them. Do not be mean back. Forgiveness and Grace. We need to have this on a daily basis.
Cherish and value your girlfriend’s. You will always need her and she will need you.
I want to impress on my daughter’s heart the joy of loving others. The joy of giving. The joy of putting others first. Do for others first and you will be blessed. Always be ready to be used by God.
I could easily list hundreds of things I want to teach my daughter in this world. Things to encourage her to be a respectful lady, to honor God, and to always smile. I pray that I will always be able to teach my daughter the right way and help her grow in to her own person.
I pray you will always have the strength to face your challenges. I pray you have wisdom to choose your battles and passion to follow Christ. You will always laugh and smile at the days to come.
Love,
So beautiful. I want to save this and think/reflect on it one day when I have a daughter. I love, love, love every one of these hopes and prayers. And even as I read them, I hear them as things I need to learn, be reminded of each day, and prayers over myself. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much Heather! I remind myself each and every day. I wrote a while back about my son and I wanted to write for my daughter too. Have a blessed week!Thank you for reading!
