Oh friends life has been very busy these last two weeks or should I say months. Juggling life, family, kids, school, work. laundry, dishes, meals, volunteer, you name it. It has been on my list. There have been times I have had to say no. There have been times I should have said no. But everything I have done has been a blessing and many rewards through the end.
Our family had time yesterday to go to dinner together, get a little shopping done, and spend much-needed family time together. At the end of the evening we had to go to my husband’s fire station to pick something up and we ended up chasing fireflies in the night. The anticipation of where they would light up and watch them glow. The kids laughing and smiling so excited to see the glows in between the trees in the dark. we did everything we could to chase them and catch one to hold it and watch it light up in our hands.
On the way home the kids fell asleep and I was left thinking about our evening. Spending time with my husband talking with out interruptions, which doesn’t happen often. I was gently reminded how often do I chase God? I chase everything else in this world wanting to change things around me, volunteering, simple pleasures, movies, clothing, toys, etc… we chase a lot. Things that we want. Places we want to go. Things we want to do.
Chasing fireflies. Chasing this world. Chasing God.
I think I do well, reading my bible, teaching the word to my children, even hospitality. Being a good servant. All of these things are pleasing to God, yes. But I can get so busy completing all these tasks, helping others, fulfilling my selfish desires, even chasing firefly’s.
It was rather peaceful, full of excitement, and a memory I will cherish forever watching my children smile so big over a firefly. God’s little creation. A little bug that can light up. Something so simple that we get excited to see. Isn’t that how God wants us to chase him? Full of excitement. If we would chase him in our every moments of life maybe it could be more simple. We will still have problems, discouragement, even tragedy. What if we chased God, even during those times, to fill us back up with hope and excitement.
God has a desire for you. God wants to be the driving force in your life to that sparks the fire to chase after his heart. We chase good things in life. We chase a desire to be loved. We chase a desire to be accepted. We chase Success. We chase Comfortableness.
Today. Let’s chase after God’s own heart and let his desires be our desires. Chase him like you have never chased before.
