My husband {well my husband does a better job than me with the sugars} have been eliminating foods from our diet and home for the last two years. We have gone dairy free except for an occasional yogurt and drink almond milk. I even cook with almond milk in place of milk. We do not purchase breads, foods, snacks, etc. with high fructose corn syrup, which is in a lot of foods! I watch for MSG which I do not tolerate. We have made small changes and habits for various for our health, educated about food, lactose intolerance, MSG intolerance, and I am also working through a possible gluten intolerance. I have had stomach issues for years and they seem to get worse, even after I made lots of changes. My husband and son also suffer from stomach issues with foods. My stomach issues come along with headaches and nausea as well.
My husband does cross fit and Paleo foods and I have done the Paleo with him, just not 100% and still eat lots of sugars {my coffee} here and there. Anyways, I am hoping that these changes will help tremendously. These changes are not going to be just gluten-free it will be whole clean eating. Mainly fresh foods that are real not processed. Including the foods that I buy that are all natural or organic but still processed. Processed is processed regardless if it is natural or not, it is food removing its natural form. The hardest part will be with the kids {mainly my son}. He is very picky about textures and smells and this will be a challenge. I know a lot of his food issues relate to his Sensory Integration but I am hoping small and consistent changes will provide a positive impact and end result.
Anyways, enough about all the {Foods} background with me and my crazy stomach! I have been frustrated with all the changes I have made and then feeling awful this week which I’m sure being away from home last week didn’t help any. I felt like I hadn’t made any progress but I know I have and I am excited for more.
Today I am sharing my Almond Butter Banana Smoothie. I always a smoothie and I usually use a chocolate whey protein with my banana but I am eliminating the whey protein and tweaked with this new one. And I love it.
1 banana
2 tbsp almond butter
1 peeled/cored apple
1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 tbsp unfiltered raw honey
1 tbsp ground flaxseed
1/2 cup ice
Place all ingredients in your blender and blend 2-3 minutes until all mixed and smooth. Enjoy!
