Love is Indispensable

February 11, 2013 · 1 Comment

Just as it says in my NIV Bible in 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 the chapter is Love is Indispensable.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

I have been reading this scripture this week and I will be honest it was rather piercing. I had scheduled posts this past week but every time I would start type what was on my mind the words would disappear as if I never had the thought. I went to church Sunday and our Pastor talked about Rest, the Sabbath. To not be work driven but rather God driven. It took me back to the reason I started my blog to glorify God. So I didn’t have the words. God needed my full attention and I needed to be still.

While studying this scripture this week it struck me how Paul is telling us about some pretty amazing and spectacular gifts he can have. He describes incredible ways to be honorable. He can be sacrificial, giving all he possesses to the poor, but if it isn’t done in love, he has done nothing and gains nothing. This left me asking myself what motivates me?

What are my intentions for each day I wake up and live this life God has given me? Do I speak in tongues like Angels or do my words hurt those around me? Do I seek to gain exposure and credit for my good works or do I give humbly without notice at all? Do I seek God’s face, open my heart to be changed, or do I seek God only with the parts of my heart that are comfortable and self pleasing?

Is everything I am, everything I do, every person I encounter, every conversation that I have, everything, done out of Love? I am not perfect nor will I ever be but what motivates me? Is it Love? God’s unfailing love that can change a man’s heart in an instant. God’s perfect love that shines through me and radiates across the room that is inviting to someone who needs God’s love? Is it God’s ever-changing powerful love that motivates me?

To be selfless, to encourage others, to lift you up, to be your person, to give to the poor, to teach, to suffer with, to share God’s word, to love. With out Love, I am nothing. Without God I am reckless.

While reading this scripture this week I couldn’t help but think of a song I absolutely love and I honestly can’t listen to without being deeply moved. Sure enough it was on the radio several times this week. I have shared before that God really ministers to me through music and he really needed me to hear it this week again. If you have seen the movie The Passion of The Christ this video paints an image of how much God truly loves us and what he has done for us.

Third Day – Love Song

Song Lyrics

I’ve heard it said that a man would climb a mountain Just to be with the one he loves How many times has he broken that promise It has never been done. I’ve never climbed the highest mountain But I walked the hill of calvary

Chorus: Just to be with you, I’d do anything There’s no price I would not pay Just to be with you, I’d give anything I would give my life away.

I’ve heard it said that a man would swim the ocean Just to be with the one he loves How may times has he broken that promise It can never be done I’ve never swam the deepest ocean But I walked upon the raging sea

Repeat chorus

(Bridge) I know that you don’t understand the fullness of My love How I died upon the cross for your sins And I know that you don’t realize how much that I gave you But I promise, I would do it all again.

Just to be with you, I’ve done everything There’s no price I did not pay Just to be with you, I gave everything Yes, I gave my life away.

What have you done this week to show God how much you love him? Take the extra five minutes your child is craving, write a love note to your husband, lend a shoulder to a friend who is hurting, pray for your enemy, help a family in need, read your bible, and the list goes on. We can honor and glorify God in our every day lives. Nothing spectacular to us but spectacular to God.

He gave his life away for us because he LOVES us. Will you give yours away?

I hope and pray that you can see just a glimpse of how much God really loves you. How he wants nothing but the best for you even when we suffer. He is not only with you, he is for you. He is Love and that should motivate us to love with everything we have to glorify God.

His Love

This world is full of sorrow and suffering and death. But thankfully, this world isn’t it for us. Because of God’s greatest gift of salvation, we have the hope of the world to come, where there is no suffering and peace surpasses everything.  The storms that are raging and crashing all around us….will stop. That sickness […]
