I have a five and half-year old little boy who loves all things superheros, dinosaurs, sharks, and loves to cuddle with mom. One of his favorite things to do lately is play superheros and cowboys. He puts on his capes, cowboy badges, and even a firefighter on some days.
He came up to me and asked, “Mom, do you know what a sidekick is? I said a sidekick? and he said ,”yes, mom you know they are the ones that help the superheros.” He then tells me that he has sidekicks and named a few friends and he is their sidekick too. I loved this and that very moment through the words of an innocent child God reminded me that we are his sidekicks.
I think we all want to be the superhero at some point. But when we really think about it. God is our superhero. Doing his mighty work behind the scenes. Creating moments that we have no earthly idea are for his plans and sometimes we never do realize. But every superhero needs a sidekick. Someone to help them out. Plant some good seeds. Spread the good news. God is fully capable all on his own. He is a superhero. But he wants us to help others and be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Next time you are playing superhero’s with your little one’s remember God is your superhero and he will always be there for you. However, we all need a sidekick too.
I couldn’t help but share this photo I found on pinterest.
Let’s be awesome sidekicks at that!
