Why I choose Beautycounter

May 14, 2019 · Leave a Comment

I began researching skincare, makeup, and family care the last two years when my kids skin was reacting to so many things that were in contact with their skin. I was at a lost and spent so much money on so many products hoping they wouldn’t have a reaction. I thought it was just our sunscreen when it all began but it got to the point of not being able to recognize which product it was. We were experiencing reactions from soap, body wash, lotions, sunscreens, and more. I was at a lost. Many doctor appointments at the dermatologist and lots of prescription creams later we felt hopeless. Food diaries, food sensitivities, chemicals, and more trying to figure all of this out. Let me be clear too, I thought we were dealing with chemicals that were in our products but I was confused because everything I bought said Non-toxic, safe, greener, eczema friendly, eco friendly, and all natural. My mama heart was hurting and my kids skin was getting worse especially my son. He was having what appeared to resemble burns and blisters specially on his hands so we found an allergist. Through his testing we found he was allergic to rubber which my goodness he was exposed to through sports equipment, shoes, gloves, swim goggles and the list goes on. We also found he was allergic to zinc oxide which was in our sunscreen. Lastly though we found that he is allergic to methylisothiazolinone which is a preservative found in most household products such as soaps, shampoos, conditioners, baby wipes, moisturizers, cosmetics and more. We had to find a soap that we could bring with us anywhere outside of our home. This synthetic ingredient was in all of our “natural” products.

So, I began the journey of researching and finding what was the safest products my family could use not just for our overall health but our allergies too. I found Beautycounter. I first found them for their sunscreen and then I began to ask myself why would I not switch my makeup for my own health like I do all of our soaps and household products for my family.

My philosophy on the ingredients in so many skincare products is… if you can find an alternative WITHOUT those ingredients (parabens, phthalate, hydroquinone, retinol) then why even risk the effects that they can produce long term. I would rather be safe than sorry for myself and my family.
Be an educated consumer for yourself and your family. Start by digging into the ingredients I listed above. The reason I joined Beautycounter is because they ban the use of over 1500 questionable ingredients from being used in their products (the FDA only bans 30 ingredients in personal care products.. THAT is crazy). And there isn’t anyone holding companies to standards of what is safe for you and your family.

Maybe you’re new to Beautycounter and are wondering WHO Beautycounter even is. Beautycounter is a skincare and makeup company whose mission is to get SAFER products into the hands of everyone.
Beautycounter’s Mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone.
Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limited to asthma, cancer, and infertility) are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it’s in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home.
There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don’t have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry.
What’s worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) does not have the authority to remove harmful ingredients from the products we put on our bodies and on our kids’ bodies every single day, day after day.
Did you know…. the US has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.
Over the past two decades, the European Union has banned close to 1,400 chemicals in the product formulas of personal care products and restricted the levels of over 250 more in such products. The United States has only partially banned 30 to date.
What makes Beautycounter STAND OUT is they have prohibited the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals through “The Never List™” — all while ensuring our products perform and that they’re as indulgent as any other luxe shampoo, lipstick, or oil in the market.
Beautycounter goes ABOVE and BEYOND to make sure you’re getting the safest products possible!
